When I arrived in Leicester, I was greeted by my host counselors for the weekend, David and Irene, who made me feel completely at home. They opened up their home to me and fellow scholar Victoria, cooked us some fabulous meals (I still have dreams of Irene's homemade apple-strawberry pie covered in custard), and took us on tours of the beautiful city of Leicester. The highlights for me were the Guildhall, a timber-framed great hall built in 1390 for town meetings, and Castle Park, a picturesque park with, yes, castles in it. After spending Saturday morning with the Langmans, we were off to the Leicester Space Center to meet the rest of the scholars. We spent the rest of the day touring the new Town Hall -- with a meeting in the Council Chamber with the Lord Mayor of Leicester, having tea (and loads of scones and cake), and dancing traditional barn dances with the Leicestershire Morris Men at the University of Leicester. It was quite a night!

Trip to Leicester!
Before I could really get settled into Oxford, I was off to Leicester for the Rotary LINK Weekend! All the Rotary Scholars studying in the UK (85 of us!) headed to Leicester to spend the weekend (Sept 25-27) meeting each other and finding out what our responsibilities were for our year as ambassadorial scholars.
