Goosebumps at Evensong

Play the above video while you read this -- you won't be able to see anything, but you can listen. We went to Evensong at New College during Week 3. Evensong is basically a mass in the beautiful college chapel that is sung. So, 20 young boys and some older men sing together instead of the priest reading everything. It was unreal. You heard the young boys' voices - they sounded like angels - as the echoes bounced off the wood-paneled engraved seats and marble statues, and you smelled the burning incense. The chapel was dark, lit only by candlelight, so you saw shadows bouncing off the ancient sculptures. It was impossible not to be overwhelmed by the intensity of the experience and feel something spiritual. When they started singing, I got goosebumps.

Outside the Church.
